Legal & Code of Conduct

Ensuring a safe and welcoming space for all.

Bonfire is a community built on respect. We are dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, age, race, ethnicity, nationality, or religion. We do not tolerate harassment of participants in any form.

Scope

This Code of Conduct applies to all Bonfire spaces, including our in-person meetups, online communities (Discord, social media), and any related events or gatherings. It applies to all participants, including attendees, speakers, sponsors, volunteers, and organizers.

Our Values

Our events are open to anyone interested in game development. We strive to create an inviting, friendly, and respectful environment where professionals, students, and hobbyists can connect. We encourage participants to assume good intent, be patient with newcomers, and offer constructive feedback rather than criticism. We expect all participants to be professional, considerate, and respectful of fellow attendees' boundaries and perspectives.

Prohibited Conduct

The following behaviors are strictly prohibited at all Bonfire events and spaces:
Verbal Harassment: Offensive comments related to gender, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, age, race, ethnicity, nationality, or religion. This includes slurs, insults, and unwelcome comments about someone's identity or appearance.
Physical Harassment: Unwanted physical contact, blocking someone's path, or invading personal space. Always ask before initiating physical contact such as handshakes or hugs.
Sexual Harassment: Unwelcome sexual attention, inappropriate imagery, sexualized comments or jokes, and unwanted advances.
Intimidation & Stalking: Threatening behavior, following someone without consent, or persistent unwanted contact both during and after events.
Online Harassment: Harassing behavior in our Discord server, social media, or any digital communication related to Bonfire.
Disruption: Sustained disruption of talks, presentations, or other activities.
Privacy Violations: Recording or photographing individuals without consent, or sharing private conversations.

Consequences

Participants asked to stop any harassing or inappropriate behavior are expected to comply immediately. If a participant engages in prohibited conduct, event organizers may take any action they deem appropriate, including:
A verbal warning
Removal from the event or online space without refund
A ban from future Bonfire events
Reporting to local authorities when applicable
Event organizers retain sole discretion in determining the appropriate response to any situation.
